The binding is modern, dark green morocco, with gold tooling, title “Horae Beatae Mariae Virginis” and “1429” on the back.

Contents: ff. 1-12 Calendar in French, incomplete; in black and red. ff. 13-71 Hours of the Virgins; ff. 72-75 Hours of the Holy Cross; ff 76-78 Hours of the Holy Spirit; ff.78-87 Prayers- Doulce dame de misericorde…; ff. 96-106 Passio Domini; ff. 108-121 Seven Penitential Psalms; ff.122-126 Litany; ff. 127-153 Office of the Dead.

Provenance: The calendar and the Litany point to a North French origin for this MS, although the figure style and the architecture detail of the miniatures indicate a follower of the Parisian artist, Maitre Francois.

Reproduction Details: The hardcover books are made with two pieces of real wood on the inside. The leather is a 4 oz cowhide, from a small supplier in New York state. The Glue we use to attach the leather to the wood is made at our facility, and is a period correct wheat glue. Along the spine, we use a modern perfect binding, with modern glue, to make the binding last longer. We also add three layers of mull cloth to the outside of the perfect binding, drying in between each layer, a traditional way to make the binding stiff, strong, and resilient.

Note: All of our facsimiles are made to order. Please allow 4-6 weeks for notification of shipment. The description of this manuscript comes from E.P. Spencer July 1930.
